History of the City

Joseph Conant Avery entered and resided in the boundaries of Corvallis. During the year 1849, he opened a store in that region and decided to name the community Marysville. In Dec 1853, a resolution was presented by the field petitions to convert the name of the city from Marysville to Corvallis.
